Community Preservation Award
This award is intended to be given periodically to a person, business, or other entity to recognize and highlight preservation of historic homes, buildings and sites in the Ormond Beach area, while promoting the mission of the Ormond Beach Historical Society.
Selection will be made by the OBHS Preservation Committee. Nominations may be given by any member of the Ormond Beach Historical Society.
The award (a plaque or similar) will be presented to the honoree and a temporary yard sign will be placed on the site.
Historic New Bethel AME Church
On Sunday, May 22, to celebrate Preservation Month 2022, our Community Preservation Award honored the work of Pastor Floyd Narcisse and the congregation of the Historic New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church on S. Yonge Street. The church, completed in 1927, has been an outstanding example for over 95 years of People Saving Places. The congregation was originally organized in 1885 in a building across the street and moved to the present building, which was built by the congregation and lovingly cared for until today.
Ormond Beach Elementary School
Our first Community Preservation Award was given to Ormond Beach Elementary School at our Annual Meeting on January 21, 2022. The award was accepted by school principal Ms. Shannon Hay.
